Program Chair Dick Stone introduced Sarah Pressly from "Feed My Starving Children" (FMSC) which is located in Libertyville. It is a Christian charitable organization. They provide packets of food for children in countries around the world, including Haiti, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Uganda, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, North Korea, Ukraine, Sudan and Venezuela. The bags of food for one meal are packed with four items: rice, vegetable protein with soy, dried vegetables and a vitamin powder. She said 91% of the donations are used for charity alone. She indicated that 99.7% of the food packed gets to its destination. All packing is done by volunteers, which included quite a few of our Club members as participants at some point in the past. She said 364 million meals were packed last year - all food for the packing having been donated. To feed a child one meal daily for the entire year costs $88. FMSC has a "marketplace' where they sell products made in the countries served. The profits go back to those who made the products. The program raises about $400K a year.
