New member Brian Romes was our keynote speaker. He was recently named Executive Director of the HP Park District. Brian said the district exists to enrich community life. Recreation and leisure needs are different for all, but provide benefits to the young and old. They structure their events and programs to help in building the community. His update included: Sunset Valley Golf Course - with a renovated club house, they expect 30K rounds of golf this year. With increased drainage and its design and renovation, Sunset Valley has won 3 awards. For the old HP Country Club, it will be called Community Park with walking paths, bike trails being installed. Construction for the master plan which is under development, is scheduled to begin spring of 2020. Pickle ball is the newest growing sport. The district now has 9 outdoor courts available. The Recreation Center has additional renovations planned. Brian indicated that Rosewood Beach is the most popular of the city's beaches with 30K visits per year. There has been some erosion due to the high water. The dog beach at Moraine is closed due to erosion of the path. Park Avenue boating area is still open, but the ramp and barge are underwater. And finally, the Ice Arena is in need of serious updating. The Park Foundation is relatively new and provides funds for scholarships and capital improvements. They are looking for new members.
