Ghida gave a special thank you to Fred Orkin and Sylvia Aruffo for opening their home for the Holiday Party and to Mike Babian and Mary Beth Bretzlauf for all their hard work organizing the event.

 

Ghida recognized the volunteers who assisted at the Special Olympics held at HPHS this past weekend.

 

Ghida also recognized Diana Sotelo who received the Outstanding Ambassador award from the Chamber of Commerce.

 

The next service project will be the MLK day of service on January 21, 2019. Mike Stroz is chairing the Rotary's service project at this event. Volunteers are needed.

 

Our guest speaker Rosemary Heileman, from the League of Women Voters is a Northwestern University graduate and has been a long time member of the LWV team. The main mission of the organization is to increase voter turnout.

 

Rosemary's message today was the need to abolish the Electoral College in order to create a more open democracy that includes the voices of all U.S. Citizens. The LWV recommends many changes to the electoral college but primarily they would like to see the college cease due to the imperfect process of selection.

 

She shared information citing that every vote will count if the electoral college is abolished; otherwise, it is a disincentive to vote in non-battleground states. She concluded that the presentation put together by LWV is available to anyone to use if they would like to share it.
