Becky Frese is the Community Engagement Manager for Habitat for Humanity of Lake County and has been with them for about two years. Before H4HLC, she volunteered a few years with Appalachia Service Project which repairs homes of seniors in the that area, she chose service instead of being a lawyer.
Currently, H4HLC is building six houses for six families. Three of them are in Waukegan, two in North Chicago and one in Round Lake. The families in the program go through 40 budgeting classes and 500 hours of community service either in the retail store, repurposing items and working side by side with the professionals building their home. The homes are built to accommodate the families, so it could have two to four bedrooms. The lots are usually donated or bought for $1, and sponsors help with the home building expenses. Groups of volunteers make a donation depending on the size of the group to spend the day working from building walls, hanging drywall and painting.
Those of you not able to make it, we missed you!
